The Cyclades

The Cyclades are a group of Greek islands in the Aegean Sea, so called for their circle arrangement.

The archipelago is made up of about 220 islands, among these we find famous and well-known locations all over the world such as Mykonos. It is difficult to imagine when this small island of Greece was a simple stop before reaching the best known Delos. Around the 1950s, with the rediscovery of the island by men like Aristotle Onassis, Pierre Cardin, Maria Callas, Grace Kelly, Princess Soraya, the island of Mikonos became the favorite place for holidays for the whole international jet set . From a poor fishing island to a coveted residence for luxury holidays, Mikonos is in fact not a place to think of having a holiday at the symbol of the economy.

The architecture of the island is unique: from the houses built on the water where pirates hid treasures, to the pools of luxury villas overlooking the bright Aegean.

Mikonos is also famous for its wonderful windmills which until the early 1920 were used to grind grain.

According to mythology, the island of Mykonos was formed by the petrified bodies of the giants killed by Hercules and was named after Apollo’s grandson, “Mykonos“.

Among the many places to see, one of the most panoramic corners of the island is definitely Alefkántra or “Little Venice“, an eighteenth-century district, dominated by buildings built sheer above the sea with windows and balconies that are conspicuously colored.

Ricardo Cavalcanti took this shot of Little Venice during a holiday that he gave himself for his birthday. The colors that showed up at his sight deeply involved Ricardo giving us this beautiful testimony.
