Basilica del Pilar.
The basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, or simply basilica del Pilar, is located in Zaragoza, Spain.
It is considered as the first church dedicated to Mary in history.
A large central dome, ten minor domes, four bell towers make this church a truly majestic building.
Among the most famous sanctuaries in Spain, the legend says that it was founded by James the Greater. Mary, still living in Jerusalem, had appeared to him not in spirit but in her body, sitting on a pillar (pilar).
In the central part of the building there is the holy capilla, which houses the image of the Virgin.
In front of the Holy Chapel is the Volta del Coreto whose frescoes have the signature of Goya.
This wonderful night shot by Alberto Daniel Gangi reflects the basilica’s grandeur on the waters of the Ebro river
