With Halloween behind us and now looking towards Christmas 2023, here is the issue of Pixel Photo Magazine that will close this year. This issue is also characterized by the many new faces that populate the world of amateur photography. Many amateurs yes but with a great vision of the world; capable of transmitting emotions and stories collected around the world with their shots.
Our Facebook group is constantly growing every day and the photos that feed it, both color photos and black and white photos, are dozens and dozens every day. The contents are always very valid and encouraging for those who are always looking for inspiration or to improve their technique. The Time of AI
The latest advances in technology in the field of digital photography have led large companies to tackle and finance more and more projects in the specific sector with a truly rapid race towards increasingly targeted goals. Digital manipulation has reached levels that are truly difficult to discover with the naked eye and we often find ourselves faced with images that have nothing of “photography” understood as photographic art.
Post production
Without wanting to desecrate progress and science but I think we need to divide the two things: Art of Photography and Art of digital composition. Personally I have no skills regarding the world of the Metaverse but I want to believe that to build an image capable of deceiving judges of renowned competitions (editor’s note: Sony World Photography Award), man will have to do his part: choice of a subject, location, lights , shadows, expressions, emotions that you want to transfer, etc.
Awareness
If these conditions can be controlled, corrected, worked on personally by the human being; then perhaps we can talk about this new artistic world and define it as Art.
It being understood that the final result will not be photography but a new form that will have to stand out in a new sector. Just like Painting or Photography, this will have to have its own unmistakable sector; but above all it must be free to express itself without subterfuge.
A new Art
The author must be free to identify his work as the result of an AI collaboration, without anyone having to question or discredit the result. Like any art form it is subject to criticism and praise, the important thing is that its true identity is attested in such a way that it is not confused with photography.
The cover
The cover photo of Pixel Magazine this month is dedicated to Ian Strachan. A retired architect, he studied photography as part of his architectural studies. Now retired and interested in how architecture and buildings adapt to landscape and urban situations, and how different variations in light can change the appearance of these scenes.
